Tradition 

Sri lanka has a rich and diverse tradition of stage drama, dating back to ancient times. The earliest forms of sri lankan theater were based on folklore and mythology, and were performed in temples and open - air theaters. Over time, these performances evolved into more complex and sophisticated forms of theater, incorporating elements of music, dance, and storytelling.


Traditional Sinhala Drama

Some of the most popular traditional sinhala drama include Maname (1956), Sinhabahu (1964), and  Andare (1968).


Modern Sinhala Drama

English Drama

English drama are often performed by amateur theater groups, and are often adaptations of western classics. Some of the most popular  English drama in sri lanka include Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and The importance of being Earnest.
